Great hotel and great service! Highly recommended
Nice hotel. A little old fashioned. The pool was also a little dated but everything worked well. The breakfast was also good, good selection and variety. The rooms where a little bare but anything extra needed could be ordered from reception.
The big + was the Japanese restaurant that was excellent.
In a good location, close to the Sala Daeng BTS station. Take exit 5, and it’s a short 3,4 min walk.
If you have heavy luggage, the flight of stairs from exit 5 may be a challenge. If you take the elevator, it takes you to the other side of the road and you end up walking a longer distance.
The suite room was clean and spacious but design-wise, boring. Felt like the room was too large for the amount of furniture, especially the washroom.
I was hoping to see a fancier set of amenities in a suite room, and the fact that you had to request some items like body lotion and shaving kits, was a bit frustrating.
The lounge was closed so the 23rd floor restaurant was also used as a lounge. The service overall was great; a huge shoutout to Kyoko san, who went above and beyond to make my dining experience an amazing one.
The food here is also delicious and the presentation for the afternoon tea was beautiful.
The building is well constructed, however going to the carpark on a different lift is surely weird.
I never stayed at Crowne Plaza Bangkok before due to my perception of lack of elite loyalty benefits but for a change I gave them a try for only one night to see with my own eyes. I can reconfirm that in normal circumstances the benefits are slim to none, although in the end I got a junior suite for this stay.
I booked the entry level room on the cheapest rate which was actually not that cheap compared to alternatives in Bangkok at the moment. At hotels like the Hiltons, Pullmans, Marriotts, Renaissance, and Grand Hyatt, as an elite of the loyalty program of these hotel chains I can get free breakfast + lounge access for about the same price as Crowne Plaza and some of them also upgrade to a suite. Upon check-in a very deserted hotel I was asked if I wanted to pay for breakfast because it was not included in my rate. I asked what are the elite benefits are and I was told it’s a room upgrade which was not a suite. They used to give free breakfast or lounge access to Spire Elites but not anymore unfortunately. When I mentioned that the price I was paying was very high relative to other hotel chains considering what I am getting, in the end they improved my upgrade further and I received a junior suite which was a good gesture.
The junior suite was actually nicer than I anticipated. First of all, many hotels only have 1 bathroom in a junior suite, but CP had the convenient half bath near the entrance in addition to the main bathroom. In addition, both bathrooms had Toto washlets which was an unexpected luxury feature for a hotel of this caliber. The main bathroom was reasonably nice and spacious with a large bathtub next to a small window with horizontal blinds looking at the bedroom and a decent size stand-alone shower. The bed was very comfortable, the pillows were thick, and air conditioning strong which ensured a good night of sleep.
Service was good and worthy of a 5-star hotel, for example they were quick and efficient for various requests like printing jobs, booking a taxi, also a manager stopped by when I checked out to ask me more details about the conversation I had at check-in and we had a nice chat about my opinion of the IHG elite benefits compared to other chains. She made it sound like they genuinely cared about hearing guest opinions whereas other hotels would just let me leave, end of story.
Overall I cannot say that the value for the money was awful because in the end I received a suite upgrade, however I would probably need to hear of other travelers getting suite upgrades in normal conditions before returning, or wait for the hotel to change their policy about elite benefits for breakfast and/or lounge access.
